Some stores require college kids to come in for holidays so they can restart their leave every few months and not lose their position because you could come back as maintenence, etc. I've never heard of that being a mandatory policy, though. Mostly our college kids who work on the floor (toys) come back every holiday to secure their floor spot.

You got fired because you no called no showed, not because Sedgwick denied your LOA. If you are scheduled, you are supposed to call in. As others have already said, contacting your TL isn't the same as reporting your absence. You have to use one of the three call in methods.
