Prusaslicer retraction settings

These settings have a default value that should work well on many printers. However, if one has configured a large retraction in the slicer (eg, 5mm or greater) then one may find they limit the desired speed of retractions. If using a large retraction, consider tuning Klipper's pressure advance instead.

Apr 12, 2021 · I'm still looking for the perfect retraction settings. I am currently using Length 3.2mm and Retraction Speed 30 mm/s and results are good! I am looking for something a little better than that. I have tweaked and tweaked (maybe I should twerk lol) and end up coming back to the 3.2mm / 30 mm/s because all the tweaks had detrimental effects. Forgive my newness, I've only owned a 3d printer (Ender 3 S1 Pro) for about two weeks. When I first set up Cura (using a post I found online) I some how missed the part about changing retraction settings, so I was happily printing along all week using 6.5 & 25 which was the default in Cura for me. I get minimal stringing at those settings (more like whisps than actual stringing). If you're using custom firmware, you can copy settings out of your header files. These go into the Machine limits tab (Printer Settings->Machine limits) in PrusaSlicer. I cranked back the firmware defaults significantly (e.g., acceleration from 9,000 to 1,000, jerk from 20 to 8) until I got a decent print, then tuned from there.

Oh do I have an answer for you: (100% - retract amount before wipe) * (retraction length / retraction distance) The formula above results in "wipe time". Basically wipe time and wipe speed (which is travel speed by default) will give you wipe distance (speed * time = distance) 1. PrusaSlicer settings for 0.6 mm nozzle. RE: @tobycwood. The controls for detraction are in two places, (1) Printer Settings/Extruder [Retraction] its listed as detraction speed (normally set to Zero) at which point it takes on the speed attribute of the Retraction speed, and (2) in Filament Settings/Filament Overrides, and changing the speed has an effect. Hope this helps.

So... I checked out the default setting in my prusaslicer and I was surprised to see a retraction length of 0.8mm, even though the hint box and other articles I have read says that the default should be 0.2mm. Nothing is changed and the default retraction settings as set under Printer Settings are used. Select the Generic Flex profile and retraction length is checked and set to 0, thus overriding the defaults. However the problem with the path planning remains-- it seems random. I couldn't find any setting in PrusaSlicer that would affect it. It's odd that the planner doesn't continue with the nearest segment. Without deterministic path planning it won't be feasible to vary the retraction settings for each segment in a layer. Some slicers (e.g. PrusaSlicer) do not recognize the Klipper PRINT_START macro as a valid start macro and add an additional bed heat and nozzle heat to the start gcode. If examination of the output gcode shows an M109 and/or M190 before the PRINT_START macro, consider using a different or newer slicer that recognizes that macro as a valid …Hey there, for some reason I can't figure out the right retraction settings for PETG, sadly.
